Name Quilt

Thread troubles today had me walking away from the machine.  Instead, I stitched down the final 5 inches of binding, while waiting in the car at school pick up.

A name quilt to add to my collection of mini quilts.

The idea came to me as I was finishing another quilt, so I put it together quickly. Heat and bond, stuck the letters down, but I didn't want the look of stitching around the letters. To keep the edges down I used a piece of tulle layed over the top. 

I went on a quilting adventure.

Glad to have this done!

Stack and Whack Success

This quilt I have had in my possession for longer than I care to think about.  I had planned on quilting it earlier, but had doubted by skills.

Deciding to swallow my fears and just start, I loaded and wound bobbins in prerparation.  Black thread, makes quilting on black fabric quite difficult.  Lucky I have a light filled room, so provided the sun is shining, I was good to go.

 

I quilted the piano key borders and the blocks with wavy lines, in the same passes.  I then went back and did the sashing with a random geometric stipple.  This makes a lovely visual dance on the quilt.

 I am pleased with the outcome, and should have trusted myself.

Flower Sugar Quilt

 I have a quilt to share.

I had purchased for my stash some of the delightful Flower Sugar range, from the lovely people at Leicen.  

Showing off my treasures, a friend made the comment that the fabric had particular significance, and even looked very similar to a tattoo he has.  It also turns out that his mother is turning 92 this month!  

 We had a quick chat and we quickly devised a plan to present her with a lovely lap quilt on this auspicious occasion. 

The bunches of roses hold particular significance, so a quilt which utilized the beautiful main fabric as a focus was important.  I made the decision to use the teal, partly as that was what was in the store, and also as it is much easier to keep clean than the white background.

I coordinated the borders, using a smaller scale print, but still the bunches of roses.  

  

The binding, I made the bold decision to use white.  A great choice as it blends beautifully with the top and the backing, which is a sensual flannel in a grey weave print.

 Quilted in an open, all over stipple, this quilt is just divine to touch, and a feast for the eyes.

 I really have enjoyed making this project.

If you follow me, you could be forgiven for thinking that I have fallen off the face of the earth!

That is not the case, just a long stint, with little to zero energy to be creative.

This has changed and I am back into the swing of quilting and creating.

A small quilt to share, made by Sandra, (my mothers super talented cousin … so second cousin?!).  It is currently winging its way to Germany, to keep someone special warm and toasty on cold nights.

To get my rhythm back, an open stipple, all over.

Beautifully pieced, it lay flat upon completion.
